BlitzMail is an electronic mail client developed at Dartmouth
College. It is used extensively at Dartmouth for communication
both on and off campus. ValleyNet, an Upper Valley internet
service provider, also uses BlitzMail as its primary email
client. BlitzMail is also available to access Alumni Email
accounts. The BlitzMail
information page created by the software development
team at Dartmouth describes the features of BlitzMail. Some
of the highlights are:
- BlitzMail allows you to organize messages in folders
on the server, instead of on your hard drive. You can
use BlitzMail to sign onto your account from computer
connected to the Internet and your mailbox will be just
as you left it.
- Using the built-in address book and Name Directory,
it's easy to keep track of your friends, and search for
friends and colleagues (both at Dartmouth College and
with Alumni Email).
- If you want to send another alum an email, just type
their account name. You don't need to type their full
email address if they also use Alumni Email. (You can
type "Jane Doe 97" instead of <Jane.Doe.97@alum.dartmouth.org>.)
- It can be used at multiple sites, so that your copy
of BlitzMail can be used to check email accounts from
Dartmouth College and other locations.
BlitzMail is the easiest way to access your Alumni Email
account! It is available for Macintosh and Windows.
If you are using an older version of BlitzMail (2.1 or
earlier for Mac or 2.5.3 or 2.5.4 for Windows), you
should upgrade to the latest version of BlitzMail.
The first time you use BlitzMail, you will need to select
"Dartmouth Alumni" rather than "Dartmouth
College".
In order to run BlitzMail, your firewall must allow you
to make outgoing connections to ports 902 (AND) and 2151
(BlitzMail).
