May 14-18 Alumni Council Meeting

May 14-18, 2009 is the 198th (but only my second) Alumni Council meeting. You can find the agenda HERE. If you have feedback you wish me to bring to that meeting, or if you have any questions or issues you would like addressed, please let me know. More information about the Alumni Council below the fold...

Please don't forget to vote at Vox the Vote . Currently only 6.5% of alumni have voted, probably a combination of this year's lack of controversy and some election fatigue from last November. Voting opened March 25th and closes May 6th. My recommendation (as your Alumni Council representative) is that you vote For the constitutional amendment and FOR the slate as proposed. But VOTE.

An FAQ about the constitutional amendment can be found HERE.

An endorsement from some alumni and faculty leaders can be found HERE.

An editorial in the Dartmouth can be found HERE.

Here is a link to minutes from a conference call with Dartmouth Football Coach Buddy Teevens. The call responded to questions many alumni have raised about Dartmouth's football program. (Requires logging in to the site.)

Here is a link to minutes of a conference call the Alumni Council had with President Wright and Adam Keller to discuss the Dartmouth budget. (Requires logging in to the site.)

The Dartmouth College Board of Trustees elected six trustees to serve second terms: John J. Donahoe '82, R. Bradford Evans '64, Board Chair Charles E. Haldeman '70, Albert G. Mulley '70, Peter M. Robinson '79 and Thurman J. Rodgers '70. A seventh trustee, Todd J. Zywicki '88, was not reelected. The news release issued by the board on April 6, 2009, is available HERE.

In 2007 the Alumni Council voted to condemn remarks publicly made by Trustee Zywicki to an audience at the John William Pope Center for Higher Education Policy in Raleigh, North Carolina. The text of that council resolution is available HERE.

A transcript of Trustee Zywicki's speech to the Pope Center is available HERE.

On December 18, 2007, the board of trustees voted to reprimand Zywicki for those remarks.

Submitted by your Alumni Council Representative, Peter Elias '69, who would love Feedback about any of this.
