Kristen Ettensohn '05 passes away

ETTENSOHN, KRISTEN MARIE age 27, beloved daughter of David Ettensohn, MD and Linda Hassan Ettensohn, MD, died July 11, 2010 after a 2 year battle with cancer.
She was a resident of Cumberland, RI and Worcester, MA. She was the granddaughter of Aileen Ettensohn and the late Robert Ettensohn of Cincinnati, OH, and Rosarina and Frederick Hassan of Dennis, MA. She is survived by her brother Derek, and her fiance, Paul W. Ryan Jr. of Belmont MA.
A 2001 graduate of Bishop Feehan H.S, she distinguished herself in academics, athletics, and service. A student in the top 5 of her class, she was also a captain of her cross country and track teams, a Boston Globe scholar athlete. She set several running records, one of which still stands in the 2-mile. She was a 3 season, 4 year varsity athlete, was the recipient of the school's female scholar athlete award in 2001.
She graduated Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH in 2005 where she majored in biogenetics. She was a 4 year, 3 season varsity track and Cross Country Division I athlete and Captain in her Senior year. She was a contributor and editor of the Dartmouth Journal of Undergraduate Science.
Prior to entering the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2006, she performed research at the NIH, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. She participated in medical missions to both Peru and the Dominican Republic and was the representative to the Mass Medical Society Student Association.
A talented artist, she was a Silver Medalist in the National Scholastic Art Award in 2001. She was a member of the Cambridge Art Association and had her artwork published in "The Legible Script," a national literary journal for medical students.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kristen Ettensohn Memorial Scholarship Fund, 73 Beechwood Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
