Description from the Class Constitution: The President will act as the executive head of the Class. It will be his/her
responsibility to initiate new projects and carry out policy of the Executive Committee. In addition, the President
shall exercise general supervision over all other officers, to ensure the proper performance of their functions.
Key Responsibilities: The Executive Committee president is the CEO of the class. S/he coordinates the activities of
officers to make sure everything is running smoothly and pitches in where needed. S/he is the primary contact
with Alumni Relations. The president sets the strategy for the class, and has to get the officers on board and
motivated to execute the plan. A lot of this is coordinating with several groups of officers, college resources, etc.
S/he sets the agenda for and chairs the committee’s 4-6 conference calls per year. Often times, the president will
also spearhead special projects (class gifts, recruiting new officers, etc.).
Time Commitment: At a minimum, this is a “medium” time commitment position and can be as much as the
individual makes it. Roughly, the regular duties take up about four hours per month, but can be busier as things
come up. Special projects are on top of this, and can vary greatly.
Key Responsibilities: The VP role can take many forms, but it is easiest to think of the job description as very similar
to the president’s role.
Time Commitment: Same as the President.
Description from the Class Constitution: The Secretary will be the primary link between the individual alumnus and
the College, and shall prepare the Class notes and obituary notes for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. The
Secretary shall be the custodian of Class files and records.
Key Responsibilities: The class secretary is responsible for class communications and information. S/he writes the ’05 class notes in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, publishes class announcements over email, and otherwise manages communications to the class. The secretary must ensure broad representation from our classmates in our communications.
Time Commitment: This position a “low-medium” time commitment. The secretary must meet Dartmouth Alumni
Magazine deadlines for the class notes six times per year.
Description from the Class Constitution: The Treasurer of the Class shall receive and disburse all funds of the Class subject to the direction of the Executive Committee, and shall submit an annual financial report to the President.
Key Responsibilities: The treasurer is the CFO for the class. S/he is responsible for collecting dues, managing the
bank account, filing income tax returns, setting the annual budget and reimbursing expenses. This is one of the
most important positions, and the treasurer is one of the key decision makers within the class.
Time Commitment: This position a “medium-high” time commitment, with some seasonality (i.e., tax time). Much
of this work is time sensitive given its nature.
(Available After Elections)
Key Responsibilities: The newsletter editors are responsible for storyboarding ideas, soliciting contributors, editing
content and publishing The Face Times class newsletter on a quarterly basis (at minimum). Feel free to apply as a
group!
Time Commitment: This a “high” time commitment position (10+ hours per month), but hopefully can be spread
out among the group. This is definitely one process that is much easier if the whole team is moving in synch.
Heavy coordination with the webmaster is required. If a print newsletter is desired (as opposed to an HTML-based
newsletter) familiarity with Adobe InDesign is needed.
Key Responsibilities: The Webmaster manages the class website and other technology functions for the class (e.g.,
online surveys, online elections, etc.). S/he also monitors the traditional Web site statistics (visits, pages per visit,
etc.) and looks for ways to increase visitation to and relevance of the site. More recently, the Webmaster has led
our push into social media platforms such as Facebook.
Time Commitment: Varies. The ongoing activity is fairly low, as the website is up and running. Responsiveness is
key when new content is released, newsletter publications for example. The CTO can invest as much time as s/he
is willing to make any changes, improvements or overhauls to the Web site s/he wishes.
Key Responsibilities: The mini-reunion chairs coordinate and organize mini-reunions throughout the country and
world. We aim for 4-5 per year.
Time Commitment: This is a lumpy time commitment. On an ongoing basis, the chairs should be reaching out to
classmates in as many cities as possible to look for volunteers. The planning of an event can be several hours over the course of a few weeks.
Key Responsibilities: The head agents coordinate fundraising for the College and work directly with the Dartmouth
College Fund. “The Head Agent motivates a committee of volunteers who agrees to contact classmates and ask for
gifts to the Fund. The Head Agent(s): should understand philanthropy, have the time to serve as a Dartmouth
volunteer, be motivated and have the ability to motivate others, be a well-known and respected member of the
Class, have a positive track record of giving to the DCF, and be willing to work closely with a DCF class officer.”
Time Commitment: As for time commitment, it depends on both the person and the time of year. It’s maybe an
hour a week, for most months. However, there are times where the commitment becomes more intense. As
reunion comes around, commitment increases.
