Class Notes - January 2004

It was great to see some of you up in Hanover for homecoming. I hope even more of you are planning to head up next June for our fifth reunion. Check out http://www.dartmouth.org/classes/99/ for more information or to register.

Amy Micolajczyk just got back from an extended vacation in Europe. While abroad she accepted a job as a first grade teacher at the International School of Trieste in Italy. Amy writes, "I'll be teaching mostly Italian and other non-English-speakers using an American-influenced English speaking curriculum. It's quite different from my years in the inner city, but I'm looking forward to the challenge." In her email, Amy also included a bit of bragging about her Sigma Delt friends, too. Kylie Booth just graduated from the University of Toronto medical school and is starting her residency in family medicine. Leah Campbell moved to Austin to attend graduate school in public policy. Gretchen Saegh, though not a Sigma Delt, is moving to Boston to start business school.

Last February, Sara Alexander and her husband Chris welcomed a second son to their family: Sean Donald Alexander (9 lbs, 1oz). Sara also let me know that her old roommates, Stephanie Nearpass and Emily MacDougal, are both engaged to be married in August 2004.

This past spring, Kara Jursak was married to Rob Stirling ’98 on a Florida island. Katherine Willets and Beth Walsh were both in the wedding party along with ’98s Greg Hayes and Fouad El Naggar. The happy couple has moved to North Carolina where Kara is beginning her residency at UNC in pediatrics and has moved into the same apartment complex as Beth, who is working on her PhD in chemistry at Duke. Other ’99s at the wedding included Jenn Coup, Graham Gunst, Beth Westman Gaus, Katie Garrett, Andrea Stenger, and Emily Csatari. According to Katherine, who is still working on her chemistry PhD at Stanford, Jenn and Graham have some exciting news of their own--they're engaged. Graham proposed this past spring on the anniversary of their first date freshman year. They are currently living in Chicago and planning a summer 2004 wedding.

Lauren Brenner and Michael Goody ’98 were engaged on July 3rd. He took Lauren to a beautiful hotel in Manhattan, proposed, and then took her to dinner at a French restaurant. The wedding date is set for August 2004 in Manhattan. Jean Saunders and W. Boyce Blanks were engaged in August and are planning a December 2003 wedding in Charleston.

Noreen Nilan married James Pfadenhauer ’00 on August 16, 2003 in Hanover. The ceremony was held at Aquinas House, followed by a reception at the Hanover Inn and several ’99s and ’00s were in attendance. The wedding was the weekend of the big blackout on the east coast, but luckily Hanover had power; despite some travel delays, all the guests were able to make it up to Dartmouth to celebrate. The couple is now living in the Boston area where James is in his third year of law school at Boston College. Noreen is a marketing consultant.

Some of you may be thinking, "Wow, it’s been a whole year and Seth hasn’t moved yet." Well, you’re wrong, check out the new address below (tenth one since graduation) -- and, as always, let me know what’s going on. Cheers.
