New York's Vanguard Jazz Orchestra brandishes the hard-swinging big-band sound of co-founders Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, while refreshing it with contributions from the nation's foremost performers, composers and arrangers. Winner of a 2009 Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, VJO shows why it's considered “the most influential jazz big band of the contemporary era” (The New York Sun).
Part of America: Sui Generis, a Hopkins Center series celebrating contemporary American artists who have redefined or created new artistic genres.
