Dear Classmate,
The "In Memoriam" committee
has examined the need for a class Memorial Fund as a vehicle for memorializing
departed class members and for special support of the College. Many
classes, including the classes of 1959, 1960, and 1962, have had such
funds for years. This letter announces the class of 1961 Plan and invites
your participation.
Under the Plan, as approved by the Executive
Committee, we will memorialize departed classmates by making contributions
to our Endowment Fund,
The Class of 1961 Legacy, The American
Tradition in Performance
Contributions from classmates will be
sent to the class Treasurer, Ivar Jozus, who will send money to the
Endowment Fund once a year. At that time, we will publish the names
of thoses memorialized in the class newsletter. (Ivar will maintain
a separate account for In Memoriam contributions within the class Treasury.)
To initiate the plan, we are asking
you consider making a contribution in memory of one or more classmates
already deceased, and a current list is attached. We hope that we can
contribute at least $100 to the Endowment Fund for each deceased classmate.
We are very happy to announce that the
fraternity brothers of Gil Low have honored him by making the initial
In Memoriam contribution to the Memorial Fund in his name.
Monies donated to the Memorial Fund
will be contributions by '61s on behalf of '61s, yet they will empower
the College in its core mission. The performing arts rank high among
the things which illuminate and excite human beings, and this was recently
highlighted in David Birney's report on the Legacy.
We hope you will make a tax-deductible
contribution now, and make the1961 Memorial Fund a habit in the years
ahead. Checks should be made payable to "The Class of 1961"
and earmarked "In Memoriam." Ivar's address is 73 Main Street,
Middletown, CT 06457.
