Jean Claude Sylvester Pollet

Jean Claude Sylvester Pollet passed away on December 20, 2008 ,in Ellsworth , Maine , where he had lived with his wife, Majo Keleshian, since the mid-1970s. Sylvester was a poet, publisher, editor, teacher, sailor and Buddhist practitioner.

Several years after graduating from Dartmouth Sylvester earned a master’s in English from the University of Maine , graduating in 1985. He is survived by Majo and children Noelle and Matthew.

An extensive article called celebrating Sylvester’s life appeared in the January 3, 2008 , issue of the Maine weekly The Ellsworth American, and includes several of his poems. William Carpenter ‘62, a close friend, contributed to the story, called “The Poet’s Life.”
