A. Richard Taft, of Winnetka, IL, died on June 6, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. Rick began his career as a lawyer, but found his calling in the financial world. His early financial career began as an investment banker in New York City and subsequently continued in Chicago where he spent the majority of his career in asset management with The Chicago Corporation. In January 2000, he founded Chesley Taft, Associates, an asset management firm, in partnership with Ferris Chesley.
Born in 1939 in Rutland, VT, Rick graduated in 1961 from Dartmouth College and in 1965 from the University of Chicago Law School. He was a great friend to many and will be remembered for his eternal optimism, unflagging enthusiasm and sparkling wit. Rick was an avid nature lover and he enjoyed biking, fishing and skiing. He kept his friends entertained with a never-ending supply of corny jokes.
He is survived by his beloved wife Anne Corwin Taft; his dear son Erick; and his sister Joanna Taft Maynard. His other wonderful son, Alex Taft, was tragically killed in an automobile accident, just one week earlier, in Colorado, on May 29, 2008. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 784 Sheridan Road, Winnetka, on Saturday, June 28, at 3 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kellogg Cancer Care Center, 2650 Ridge, Evanston, IL 60201.
