Anthony Read Wight

Anthony Read Wight died of prostate cancer at his home in Croton-On-Hudson , NY on July 3. Tony was born in Evanston , IL on Nov. 19, 1939 to Read H. and Florence Wight. They moved to Rye , NY in 1943, where Tony attended grammar school. He went on to the Taft School and Dartmouth College .

Upon graduation, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to the language school in Monterey , CA where he became fluent in Serbo-Croatian. After service in Europe , Tony began a long career in advertising. He was an executive at Foote, Cone and Belding, Papert, Koenig and Lois, Ketcham, MacLeod and Grove, and Needham and Grohman.

During his later years Tony became very active in the Teatown Nature Center to which he was dedicated and where he devoted many hours as a volunteer. At Dartmouth Tony was a member of Gamma Delta Chi. His passion was music, especially jazz, and he was an active member of the Sultans and the Barbary Coast, for which he played the drums.

 

His first wife Catherine McHugh died in 1998. He is survived by their daughter, Alison Read Wight, his wife, Susan Salzburg and his sister, Judith Werben.
